Walking routes
Sefton and West Lancashire have many routes ideal for walking. Useful maps and route descriptions are available via the links on the right hand side, designed to enable you to discover the area's fascinating history and wonderful flora and fauna. All the trails are clearly signposted or waymarked and most are suitable for all ages and abilities. However, as with all outdoor activities, please take sensible precautions against unpredictable weather and pack waterproof clothing and wear suitable shoes. Don’t forget your sun cream during the summer months!
The maps are not intended for detailed route planning but the detailed Ordnance Survey Explorer Map, No. 285, Southport and Chorley is readily available at Tourist Information Centres and bookshops. Many of the routes are public rights of way over farmland, or cross through the many nature reserves on Sefton's Natural Coast, so please observe the Countryside Code and leave nothing behind ...... except your footprints.
Walking is an excellent way to make many short journeys and is also a valuable leisure activity. It is healthy, convenient, cheap, environmentally friendly and sustainable. Walking will make you feel good, give you more energy, help you sleep better, reduce stress, keep your heart 'strong', reduce blood pressure, help to manage your weight and it's free.
See some of our routes by following the links on the right hand side, however more are available on our downloads page.
