Armed Forces Day

SSAFA Veterans are preparing to hold a parade & event for this years Armed Forces Day which is to be held on Sunday 25th June in Southport. They are very proud to be organising it again this year and are gearing up for the big day.

SSAFA is the UK’s oldest national Tri Service Military Charity and it stands for Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association and was founded in 1885 by Major James Gildea.

All Veterans are welcome including any in wheel chairs & scooters. If you have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces regulars and reservists of all ages to take part in the parade.

SSAFA provides lifelong support to anyone who is currently serving or has ever served in the Royal Navy, British Army or the Royal Air Force.

There will be a Drumhead service starting at 10:00 am in the Town Hall Gardens, Lord Street.

A parade with Military Band will follow starting at 10:30 am from Chapel Street heading up Hoghton Street, Hill Street then on to Lord Street to the Town Hall where the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside and the Mayor will take the salute before inspecting the parade. 

The day will also include a fly past from a WWII Spitfire, music from the Military band including vintage live music, stalls from military charity SSAFA, Army Reserves 156 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps and an Army Cadets stand.
